Semi-submersible heavy load carriers continued to arrive in Halifax in late April and May. They carried jack-up rigs for the development of production wells at Encana's offshore, Deep Panuke gas consession. The first to arrive on April 25th was Dockwise's SWAN transporting the newly completed SEAJACKS KRAKEN from Jebel Ali, UAE. This vessel, designated as a self-propelled lift ship, will act as the accommodation platform for the project. Next to arrive on May 17th was the much larger TARGET, a recent conversion from a suezmax oil tanker, carrying the jackup drilling rig ROWAN GORILLA III - I believe from Trinidad. Immediately prior to this job TARGET, also operated by Dockwise, had transported the ice patrol ship HMS ENDURANCE from the Falkland Islands to Portsmouth, UK, after engine room flooding had disabled the vessel. The McDermott Canada (ex Secunda Marine) offshore supply ships HEBRON SEA, PANUKE SEA and VENTURE SEA towed the drilling rig out of Halifax on May 31st. SEAJACKS KRAKEN, which has been, fueling, provisioning and undergoing sea trials, is expected to sail for Deep Panuke soon.

Kawasaki-Line container ships on the weekly CKYH Alliance (COSCO, K-Line, Yang Ming and Hanjin) service have so far eluded me, mainly because of foggy weekend weather. Melfi Line ships will soon not be seen either in port, but not for weather-related reasons - rather, the service is going to use Montreal as its Canadian port of call. Meanwhile, a good selection of box ships continue to call and some of them are shown below.
