HOLYHEAD AND THE MERSEY - SUMMER 2007
While vacationing in Wales this summer I was able to make a few trips to the Mersey and to Holyhead. A selection of the ships photographed is to be found below.

Comments: August 8. This shot was taken as the ferry passed the South Stack Lighthouse, Anglesey, on its way to Holyhead from Dublin. Photo 2 shows Irish Ferry's, Cypriot-flagged ULYSSES (50,938 gt / built 2001 by Aker Finnyards, Rauma) in port at Holyhead alongside STENA ADVENTURER. Photo 3: Irish Ferry's HSC JONATHON SWIFT (5,992 gt / built 1999 by Austal Ships Pty, Freemantle) at speed off the coast of Anglesey en route to Dublin.

Comments: August 21. A smaller containership than the MSC CORSICA with virtually the same teu capacity. This new-build appears to be chartered to the Grand Alliance and was also photographed a few weeks later while visiting Halifax on September 18. Photo 2 shows her at the CERES terminal.

Former names: PUTNEY BRIDGE-02, MELANESIAN CHIEF-00, MIKHAIL TSAREF-94, ZIM RIO-94, CONTSHIP COLOMBUS-93, MIKHAIL TSAREF-91. The Chinese (COSCO) bulker SHOU CHANG HAI (27,766 gt / 1984) can be seen loading scrap metal in Gladstone Dock.
